Pilgrim’s Path
120 × 100 cm Used postage stamps on canvas
Pilgrims Path
This artwork is made entirely from old used postage stamps, gathered from countries all over the world. Each one depicts the pilgrimage to Makkah, and each one looks completely different. The same Kaabah, the same circling crowds, the same act of devotion, seen through the eyes of Nigeria, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, Iran, Malaysia. Every culture bringing its own colour, its own visual language, its own story.
What moved me as I worked with them was realising how much geography is contained in this single act of faith. Millions of people, from every corner of the earth, all turning toward the same point. The stamps became a kind of map of that. A mosaic of the Muslim world, in all its extraordinary variety, united by something that transcends all of it.
Pilgrim’s Path is held in a private collection.
Postage stamps from across the world, each one a fragment of a larger mosaic, each one showing the pilgrimage to the holiest site in Islam. Different countries, different cultures, one destination.
