THE STORY
“Every colourful dab is a person, gathering around the Kaabah.”
Diversity Reimagined returns to the idea at the heart of Diversity: the Ummah gathering around the Kaabah during Hajj and Umrah. Each mark represents a distinct soul, moving towards the same sacred centre. Differences of race, wealth and social standing fall away. In this shared act of worship, all stand as equals.
Here, the colour is more physical and immediate. The thicker marks hold the movement and energy of people from across the world coming together in faith.
Material & Process
This is acrylic on canvas. I build the surface with thick palette-knife paint, placing each coloured dab one at a time. The paint sits raised from the canvas, giving the work a textured, tactile surface. The Kaabah remains at the centre, holding the composition together as the colour moves around it.
