The Craft
"I applied real gold leaf over the raised surface, so the light catches it the way it caught the door."
I painted this using thick acrylic applied directly from the tube and a nozzle bottle, building up the ridges layer by layer until the surface had the same raised quality I remembered from the door. Once it was completely dry, I applied real gold leaf over the structure. The black beneath it is the deepest I could mix, so nothing competes with the gold. The texture underneath is not decorative. It is there to give the gold leaf something real to hold on to, and to make the light behave the way it does on the original.
The structure
Applied directly from the tube and a nozzle bottle, the paint was built up layer by layer to create the raised ridges I felt when I ran my fingers across the door.
The gold
Once the structure was dry, I applied real gold leaf over it. The black behind it is the deepest I could mix, so the gold stands out completely.
The light
When light hits the surface, the texture beneath the gold leaf catches it differently in every corner of the room. The raised layers are not visible. They are felt.

The first time I visited Madinah, I touched this emblem. This painting is not a copy. It is a memory of what it felt like to stand before it, to trace the ridges with your hands and realise that every detail was placed with intention, by someone who believed the door itself was an act of worship.

Your print is made to last. A few things worth knowing:
Keep it out of direct sunlight where possible. Archival paper holds its colour well, but prolonged UV exposure will fade any print over time.
Avoid hanging in humid rooms such as bathrooms or kitchens. Moisture is the main enemy of fine art paper.
If your print arrives rolled, lay it flat under a few books for 24 hours before framing. It will settle naturally.
For cleaning, a soft dry cloth on the glass is all you need. Never spray directly onto the print.
