Every piece is an act of Devotion

About Darwaza
On the door of the Prophet's mosque in Madinah there is a golden emblem. It is circular, raised, and covered in calligraphy and arabesque designs. I felt the ridges beneath my fingers and ran my hands over it, trying to understand how something so intricate could feel so solid. Darwaza means door in Arabic and Urdu.

Behind the Painting
The first time I visited Madinah, I touched this emblem. This painting is not a copy but a memory of what it felt like to stand before it, to trace the ridges with your hands and realise every detail was placed with intention. I painted this to hold on to that.

How It Was Made
I built the emblem using thick layers of acrylic paint squeezed straight from the tube and shaped like a sculpture. Each section was built up to create raised lines and ridges that you can feel if you run your hand across the surface. Once the structure was dry, I applied real gold leaf over it. The background is the deepest black I could mix, so the gold stands out completely. When light hits the surface, the texture beneath the gold becomes visible, showing the depth of the layers underneath.

  • Your print is made to last. A few things worth knowing:

Keep it out of direct sunlight where possible. Archival paper holds its colour well, but prolonged UV exposure will fade any print over time.

Avoid hanging in humid rooms such as bathrooms or kitchens. Moisture is the main enemy of fine art paper.

If your print arrives rolled, lay it flat under a few books for 24 hours before framing. It will settle naturally.

For cleaning, a soft dry cloth on the glass is all you need. Never spray directly onto the print.
