About Ayat ul Kursi Kufic
Ayat ul Kursi, the Verse of the Throne (2:255), is one of the most recited verses in the Qur'an. It is known as a verse of protection. This painting presents the verse in square Kufic script, one of the oldest and most geometric forms of Arabic calligraphy. The verse begins at the bottom right corner and moves inward, circumambulating until it reaches the centre, where the light lives.

Behind the Painting
Growing up, we always had Ayat ul Kursi near the entrance of the house. I was taught from a young age that it was a verse of protection. I wanted to create a version of it in a contemporary style using Kufic calligraphy, something that felt modern but still carried the weight of what the verse means.

How It Was Made
The canvas was mapped out in a grid of small squares before any paint was applied. Each square was designated either for part of a letter, built up with thick layers of texture, or as spaces between letters, left flat. The dark background was laid down first, then gold paint was applied over the raised squares to lift the texture and bring the script forward. The letters are crisp and angular, the geometry precise. The verse travels from the bottom right corner inward, spiralling toward the centre.

  • Your print is made to last. A few things worth knowing:

Keep it out of direct sunlight where possible. Archival paper holds its colour well, but prolonged UV exposure will fade any print over time.

Avoid hanging in humid rooms such as bathrooms or kitchens. Moisture is the main enemy of fine art paper.

If your print arrives rolled, lay it flat under a few books for 24 hours before framing. It will settle naturally.

For cleaning, a soft dry cloth on the glass is all you need. Never spray directly onto the print.
