About Anqabut
Surah Al-Ankabut is the 29th chapter of the Quran. Revealed in Makkah, it addresses the trials that come with faith and the spiritual resilience needed to face them. It uses the spider's web as an analogy: the spider builds its house with great care and effort, yet the web is the weakest of structures. It is a warning against placing trust in anything other than Allah.
Behind the Painting
I watched a spider building its web. It worked with complete focus, strand by strand, circle by circle. It had no doubt about what it was doing. That image stayed with me. The surah uses the spider's house to describe the fragility of worldly reliance. The spider does not know its house is weak. But it builds anyway. That is what the surah is about. Understanding the fragility and persevering regardless, because the strength is not in the house. It is in the one who keeps building.
How It Was Made
The paint was loaded thick onto the brush and mixed with a thickening gel. Working in loose circles, I turned the brush as I moved to push as much paint onto the canvas as possible, building up heavy, textured rings from the outside in. Once the paint dried, I painted over it in dark colours, black and deep teal, letting the raised texture show through. Then, using the edge of a palette knife, I drew thin gold lines from the centre outward, cutting through the dark surface to reveal the structure beneath.

Your print is made to last. A few things worth knowing:
Keep it out of direct sunlight where possible. Archival paper holds its colour well, but prolonged UV exposure will fade any print over time.
Avoid hanging in humid rooms such as bathrooms or kitchens. Moisture is the main enemy of fine art paper.
If your print arrives rolled, lay it flat under a few books for 24 hours before framing. It will settle naturally.
For cleaning, a soft dry cloth on the glass is all you need. Never spray directly onto the print.
