The Craft
"The word feels part of the surface rather than placed upon it."
I painted Al Haqq using a large calligraphy pen carved from bamboo by my friend Samir Malik, a world renowned calligraphy artist. The strokes are bold and deliberate. I built the background up in layers of deep blues, golds, and blacks, applying the paint with both brush and palette knife. I used bold colour to shape the letters directly, so the word feels part of the surface rather than placed upon it.
The Stroke
I painted Al Haqq with a large calligraphy pen carved from bamboo by my friend Samir Malik, a world renowned calligraphy artist. The strokes are bold and deliberate. You can see the weight of each mark in the surface.
The Ground
The background is built up in layers of deep blues, golds, and blacks, applied with both brush and palette knife. The colour was not added after. It is part of the surface the letters were made from.
The Letters
I used bold colour to shape the letters directly. The word does not sit on top of the painting. It is part of it. The letters and the ground were built together, layer by layer.
The Story
"Every injustice will be accounted for. Allah is Al Haqq, the Ultimate Truth."
There is so much injustice in the world right now. So much that is false being presented as truth. When you do not know what to believe or who to trust, Al Haqq is an anchor. The ayah says that Allah is the Truth and that what is called upon besides Him is falsehood. Not a truth, not one version of it. The Truth.

Your print is made to last. A few things worth knowing:
Keep it out of direct sunlight where possible. Archival paper holds its colour well, but prolonged UV exposure will fade any print over time.
Avoid hanging in humid rooms such as bathrooms or kitchens. Moisture is the main enemy of fine art paper.
If your print arrives rolled, lay it flat under a few books for 24 hours before framing. It will settle naturally.
For cleaning, a soft dry cloth on the glass is all you need. Never spray directly onto the print.
