The Craft
"Pulling each thread across the painted surface and anchoring them all at the Kaaba."
I started this painting by building up the background in thick, textured layers of deep blues, earthy browns, and touches of gold to resemble the earth's terrain. Once the painted surface was complete, I took a needle and golden thread and physically sewed the lines into the canvas, pulling each thread across the painted surface and anchoring them all at the central square representing the Kaaba.
The Kaaba
The central square where every thread is anchored. I pulled each one across the painted surface and fixed it here. Up close you can see the threads crossing and layering, all converging on the same point.
The Thread
These are not painted lines. I took a needle and golden thread and physically sewed them into the canvas, one by one. Each thread travels from the edge of the painting inward, pulled tight across the surface and anchored at the centre.
The Ground
I built the background in thick, textured layers of deep blues, earthy browns, and touches of gold to resemble the earth's terrain. The paint was fully dry before the needle touched the canvas.
The Story
"The unique, personal journey of each thread. The collective unity of all of them together."
Every person who makes the Hajj has their own path, their own struggles, and their own reasons for being there. Yet when they arrive, all those differences fall away. I wanted to capture that: the unique, personal journey represented by each individual thread, and the collective unity of millions of threads converging at the Kaaba.

Your print is made to last. A few things worth knowing:
Keep it out of direct sunlight where possible. Archival paper holds its colour well, but prolonged UV exposure will fade any print over time.
Avoid hanging in humid rooms such as bathrooms or kitchens. Moisture is the main enemy of fine art paper.
If your print arrives rolled, lay it flat under a few books for 24 hours before framing. It will settle naturally.
For cleaning, a soft dry cloth on the glass is all you need. Never spray directly onto the print.
