Compass of Faith. When the world feels uncertain, faith gives us a direction. Not just where to stand, but where to turn.
Compass of Faith in a library setting
Hold your direction. Even now, especially now. Siddiqa Juma

About Compass of Faith
This painting centres on a compass, but its needle points not to magnetic north but to the Kaaba. The Kaaba sits at the centre of the compass face, surrounded by intricate concentric circles and crosshatched line work. It reflects how faith gives direction, no matter where you are or what you face. Every needle points to the same place.

Behind the Painting
Muslims pray five times a day facing the Kaaba, wherever they are in the world. That turning toward a fixed sacred point happens so naturally it is easy to overlook. The compass felt like the right symbol because it is both a tool and a spiritual guide. For us, true north is the Kaaba.

How It Was Made
The black background was painted first. The compass face was then built up using a bottle of acrylic paint fitted with a fine nozzle, which allowed precise control over the intricate concentric circles and crosshatched lines that cover the surface. The Kaaba is painted in solid black at the centre. The needle and the outer rim of the compass are painted in gold, with the warm tones of the line work shifting between deep copper and bright gold across the face of the dial.

  • Your print is made to last. A few things worth knowing:

Keep it out of direct sunlight where possible. Archival paper holds its colour well, but prolonged UV exposure will fade any print over time.

Avoid hanging in humid rooms such as bathrooms or kitchens. Moisture is the main enemy of fine art paper.

If your print arrives rolled, lay it flat under a few books for 24 hours before framing. It will settle naturally.

For cleaning, a soft dry cloth on the glass is all you need. Never spray directly onto the print.
