About Abstract Domes
Inspired by a visual memory of walking through the historic streets of Cairo near the Khan el-Khalili bazaar, this painting celebrates the timeless beauty of Islamic architecture. Against a deep background of midnight blues and blacks, a cluster of layered domes emerges, their translucent, overlapping forms allowing ancient and new structures to combine. Each dome symbolises the enduring legacy of Islamic heritage.
Behind the Painting
Cairo stopped me in my tracks. I had not expected so many mosques built so close together, their domes and minarets layering upon each other against the sky. There was something about that density, that accumulation of faith across centuries, that I could not let go of. I wanted to paint the feeling of it, not the buildings themselves, but the way history and the present exist in the same space at the same time.
How It Was Made
I started with a deep background of midnight blues and blacks, applied with loose, expressive brushstrokes to create a sense of night and deep memory. Over this, I built up the cluster of domes using translucent layers of gold, silver, pale blue, and warm reds. By keeping the paint thin and transparent, the forms appear ghostly and overlapping, mimicking the way the ancient structures in Cairo seem to blend into one another. The result feels both architectural and dreamlike.

Your print is made to last. A few things worth knowing:
Keep it out of direct sunlight where possible. Archival paper holds its colour well, but prolonged UV exposure will fade any print over time.
Avoid hanging in humid rooms such as bathrooms or kitchens. Moisture is the main enemy of fine art paper.
If your print arrives rolled, lay it flat under a few books for 24 hours before framing. It will settle naturally.
For cleaning, a soft dry cloth on the glass is all you need. Never spray directly onto the print.
