About Divine Illumination

In this painting the Kaaba sits at the centre of a blazing vortex of light, with rays of green and gold radiating outward in every direction. It is a painting about divine light, not light as we see it with our eyes, but light as guidance, as presence, as the force that illuminates everything it touches.

The Craft

"The geometric lines contrast with the fluid background, anchoring the energy back to the Kaaba at its centre."

I started by building the glowing background using sweeping circular brushstrokes in vibrant greens and yellows, working outward from the centre to create the sense of a vortex of light. Once the background was established, I painted the Kaaba at the focal point. Finally, I added precise, straight white lines across the canvas. These geometric lines contrast with the fluid background, anchoring the energy of the painting back to the Kaaba at its centre.

The Vortex The Vortex I built the background using sweeping circular brushstrokes in vibrant greens and yellows, working outward from the centre. The movement had to feel like light in motion, like energy that could not be contained.
The Lines The Lines Once the background was established I added precise, straight white lines across the canvas. They cut through the fluid movement of the brushwork. That contrast was deliberate. The geometry anchors all the energy back to one point.
The Kaaba The Kaaba The Kaaba sits at the focal point where all the lines converge and all the light originates. I painted it last. Everything else in the painting exists in relation to it. It is still. The rest is movement.

The Story

"Not just a building on earth. A cosmic anchor."

This Divine Illumination painting came from a conversation I overheard between my dad and my grandson. My dad was explaining the Kaaba and said that it is not just important to our world, but to the entire universe. That thought stayed with me. Ayat un Nur says that Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. Light upon light. I wanted to paint the Kaaba not just as a building on earth, but as a cosmic anchor, with divine energy radiating outward into the universe, just as he described.
