The Craft
"Every mark is a different colour. Every colour is a different nation. All of them moving toward the same point."
I painted the Kaaba at the centre of the canvas and built the whole work outward from it. Thousands of individual short brushstrokes radiate out in every direction, each one a different colour. The colours are brightest near the Kaaba to show noor, then shift and deepen as they move outward across the canvas.
I painted with a brush, stroke by stroke, from the centre out. Every mark is a single person. Every colour is a different nation. All of them moving toward the same point.
The Marks
Every mark is a single brushstroke, loaded with one colour and placed individually. I worked outward from the centre, stroke by stroke. No two are the same colour or the same direction.
The Noor
The colours are brightest closest to the Kaaba. I built the light outward from the centre, warm and dense near the source. This is the noor. The strokes here are smaller and more tightly packed than anywhere else on the canvas.
The Crowd
Moving outward, every colour of every nation appears. The paint is applied in thick layers with brushes and palette knives. Up close you can see the raised ridges where each stroke sits proud of the canvas. The texture is part of the meaning.
The Story
"O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another." Surah Al-Hujurat 49:13
I wanted to create an abstract painting that showed the diversity of the Ummah around the Kaaba. Every person, every culture, every colour, all of it pointing back to the same place. The verse from Surah Al-Hujurat (49:13) captures what this painting is about: "O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another."

Your print is made to last. A few things worth knowing:
Keep it out of direct sunlight where possible. Archival paper holds its colour well, but prolonged UV exposure will fade any print over time.
Avoid hanging in humid rooms such as bathrooms or kitchens. Moisture is the main enemy of fine art paper.
If your print arrives rolled, lay it flat under a few books for 24 hours before framing. It will settle naturally.
For cleaning, a soft dry cloth on the glass is all you need. Never spray directly onto the print.
