Al Haqq

About Al Haqq

My mother used to say there is no Haqq in this world. And I understood what she meant. You turn on the news and you see it. Wars waged against the defenceless. Children paying the price for the decisions of the powerful. Whole communities erased. The rich getting richer while others lose everything. Injustice after injustice, and so little accountability.

As a Muslim artist, I feel that deeply. These injustices are not abstract to me. I feel they are happening more to my people, my community.

But Al Haqq is one of the 99 names of Allah. The Absolute Truth. The Ultimate Reality. His existence is eternal and unquestionable, and everything connected to Him is genuine and everlasting, while everything else, all the power, all the cruelty, all the injustice we see, is temporary.

My mother was right that there is no Haqq in this world. But Al Haqq exists beyond it. And that is what I painted. The word and the background are all part of the same feeling, the same colour, the same texture. Because truth is not separate from us. It runs through everything, even when we cannot see it.

Al Haqq. The Truth. One of the most profound of the 99 names of Allah, rendered in bold expressive calligraphy against layers of rich colour and texture. In a world full of noise and uncertainty, a single, unshakeable reminder: truth is not relative. It simply is.
