Diversity

Beyond Boundaries

I have always loved Mondrian. The boldness of it, the way he reduced everything to its most essential elements. Colour, line, structure. There is something almost meditative about his grids, and I wanted to borrow that language and make it say something about us.

The blocks of colour in this painting represent the Ummah. All of us. Every culture, every country, every shade. Vibrant, distinct, sometimes a little distressed at the edges, which felt honest. And right at the centre, a single black square. The Kaabah.

That is the thing about the Ummah. We are extraordinarily diverse. And yet we all face the same direction. We all carry the same declaration of faith. The Kaabah does not belong to any one colour or culture. It belongs to all of them. That black square in the middle of all that colour is not a contrast. It is the point where everything meets.
