The astrolabe was one of the most significant instruments in Islamic history. Muslim scholars used it to calculate prayer times, determine the direction of the Kaabah, and navigate by the stars. It was a tool that held both science and faith together in one object.
I wanted to paint the detail of it, all those intricate concentric lines and geometric patterns that make up the face of the astrolabe, raised in textured gold. The background is deep turquoise and navy, painted with visible brushwork so it feels alive rather than flat. The gold sits against it with real weight. The Shahadah is written into the metalwork. Because for the scholars who used this instrument, every calculation they made was ultimately an act of faith.

Commissioned pieces are entirely unique and designed for you. When we start working on your painting, we’ll discuss the space you’ll be hanging the piece, the style of your home, and any of my previous pieces that you might want to use as inspiration.
Commissioned pieces are also exclusive to you. They’ll never be reproduced as prints. The only place they’ll exist is in your home.

Commissions start at £1,000. The final cost of your special artwork will depend on a variety of factors, including the size, materials and complexity of the piece we discuss.

I’m based in London, but I ship work all over the world. When you get in touch we can have a look at the logistics and cost of getting your piece to you.
